3/4 Life Teen Update

Welcome March! 

Spring is in the air…the winter just flew by (thank goodness, I love the Spring!)  Lots of information this month, so please read carefully.

Life Teen Faith Formation:  

  • Family Faith Formation: March FACE! bag has been available for pickup.  If you have not picked up your final FACE! bag for the school year, you can pick up at the 3/7 Decision Point class when you check in or go the RE office between 10am-2pm. Confirmation students:  Please turn in any outstanding Touch Base with FACE! forms you may haveThis completed form verifies your religious education component for Confirmation preparation.
  • Decision Point:  Teens, don’t forget that you need to view the weekly Decision Point video and respond to your House Family leader weekly.  Confirmation students—you are required to participate each week with your House Family.  Our next gathering will be this Sunday, MARCH 7, 2021 from 2:15pm-3:45pm (Please check in on time!).  Remember, we meet in the church and wear your mask.  Here are the Decision Point gathering dates for the remainder of the school year:  March 7 and April 25. 
  • Service Day Opportunity:  Life Teen will be sponsoring a Community Service Day on Saturday, March 20th.  This opportunity is open to all Life Teen students and is REQUIRED for all current Confirmation students (Confirmation students, please see info in Confirmation section).  We will have 2 service shifts: 8:45am-11:30am and 1:30pm-3:45pm (Confirmation teens see below for your scheduled service shift).  Teens will need to bring mask, water bottle, wear closed toed shoes and dress accordingly for the weather as you could be working outside!

  • Stations of the Cross is on Fridays during Lent at 7pm in the church and at 8pm in the church for our Hispanic community.
  • Red Cross Blood Drive:  Sunday, 3/7/21, 8am-2pm, Rooms 22, 23, & 24.  To schedule an appointment to donate, please visit redcrossblood.org and use the sponsor code “sopcc.” Walk –in’s are also welcome.
  • AV Training:  Saturday, 3/13/21, 10am to Noon. Our parish tries to offer our community the best visual and audio experience for our Masses. The parish has purchased state of the art equipment and now is in need of volunteers (young and old) to facilitate this new equipment. If you are interested in being part of this team,  please contact Richard Clawson at rclawson@stolivers.com or call Richard at 770.79.2500 x24.
  • Parish Lenten Mission:  March 14-16 from 7pm-8pm in the church for our English speaking families and on March 13th from 7pm-8pm and March 14th following the 1pm Spanish Mass for our Spanish speaking families
  • Covid Kindness Collection:  Saturday, 3/27 from 10am-12Noon in the back parking lot.  The SE Co Op is in need of Non perishablesfood items, personal care items and household items.

  • 1st Year Confirmation Candidates (will be confirmed in 2022)
    • Certificates required:  If you were baptized and/or received 1st Communion at another parish other than St. Oliver’s, I will need a copy of your certificates  NOW.
    • Sponsor Certification Form:  Sponsor Certification Form is due NOW.  If you need a Sponsor form, please pick one up one from the Info board located across from the Life Teen office.  If your Sponsor is a member of St. Oliver’s, please return the (almost) completed form to the Life Teen office and I can get the form signed by Father Cyriac. Don’t forget to remind your Sponsor that the Candidate/Sponsor Day of Reflection (that is required) is on Saturday, 4/17/21 from 8:45am-3pm at the church.  More info will be sent soon.
    • Decision Point:  you are required to attend our monthly gatherings and respond weekly to your House Family!  Next class is this Sunday 3/7/21.  Check in by 2:15pm.  Class ends at 3:45pm.

  • 2nd Year Confirmation Candidates
    • January Assignment:  You were all emailed the assignment for 1/20/21.  FINAL CALL:  You must email the classwork to Miranda or bring in the 1/20 assignment to the 3/7 Decision Point class.
    • Decision Point:  you are required to attend our monthly gatherings and respond weekly to your House Family!  Next class is this Sunday, 3/7/21.  Check in by 2:15pm.  Class ends at 3:45pm. 
    • Confirmation Prep Class:  Wednesday, 3/17/21, 7pm-9pm*, please note time change due to this being our FINAL PREP CLASS.  Parent must attend class from 8:30pm-9pm as we will review the Confirmation Liturgy information.
    • Service:  Mark your calendar for our next Service day:  Saturday, 3/20/21 from 8:45am-11:30am. Service is a required component of Confirmation preparation.
    • Confirmation Penance Service:  Wednesday, 4/14 @ 7pm in the church
    • Confirmation Liturgy:  Confirmation Mass on Sunday, 4/18 has been divided into 2 liturgies: 
      • A-K—-3PM
      • L-Z—-6PM

Please remind your Sponsor of the date.  Miranda will review all the necessary information at the final Confirmation Prep class on 3/17/21.  Class is from 7pm-8:30pm and Parent/Teen class will be from 8:30pm-9pm in the church.

Pope Francis has designated this year as the Year of St. Joseph. This is the prayer will be use at Mass in honor of St. Joseph. You may consider using this as your family prayer of 2021.

2/16 Life Teen Update

Happy Mardi Gras! 

It’s one of my most favorite days of the year!  Growing up in New Orleans, this is always a day filled with family, friends, food and fun!  Since I am not home celebrating, I am dressed in Mardi Gras colors, wearing some Mardi Gras bling, and dinner tonight will be Popeye’s Fried Chicken!!  Tomorrow, I will usher in Lent by attending the 6:30am Ash Wednesday Mass—maybe I will also see some of you guys in the morning!

Here is the latest Life Teen update!  Lots of important information, so please read carefully.

Life Teen Faith Formation:  

  • Family Faith Formation: Families should be working on their February FACE! bag.  March FACE! bags will be available 2/24 for pick up.  We will send out info on time/dates for pickup via email.   • Spring Retreat:  Our Spring is just 10 days away:  Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 1:45pm-11pm.  This day retreat will be held on the church campus.    All teens are invited and encouraged to attend the Spring retreat (even if you attended the Fall retreat!).  If you are interested in attending the retreat, please email ASAP as I am ordering the retreat shirts on Wednesday, 2/17.  Permission slip is available online at www.stoliverslifeteen.com under the forms tab or you can pick one up from the Life Teen Info board located next to the Life Teen office. 

Our retreat theme is “Glory Revealed” and will be presented by the Life Teen missionaries.  Lots of awesome talks and activities to help you deepen your relationship with Christ and one another.  We will follow all safety and social distancing practices. Please wear your mask, dress comfortably but appropriately for the weather (as we plan on the majority of the events will be outside. I will send out weather update as we get closer to the retreat, but we would love prayers for sunny and 68).  Teens will need to bring the following:  a great attitude, pen, journal, Bible, and a bag chair.  Dinner and snacks will be provided.

  • Ash Wednesday Masses are scheduled on Wednesday, 2/17/21 at 6:30am, 9am, 5pm and 7pm-(Spanish)

  • Welcome to our new Associate Pastor, Father Bob Butler!!!
  • Please note that the Saturday Vigil Mass time has been changed to 4pm.  Life Teen Mass remains on Sundays @ 4pm.
  • 2021 Mass for the Unborn:   Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, the 32nd Annual Mass for the Unborn will be virtual this year. The Mass will be aired on Friday, January 22, 2021 at noon on the archdiocesan Facebook page, as well as the archdiocesan livestream page (it will not appear until then).
  • St. Oliver’s Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Blood Drive on Wednesday, 2/3/21 from 10am-4pm in the Kane-Beltran Family Center.

12/28 Life Teen Update

Merry Christmas!

I hope this email finds you all enjoying the Christmas season!  Randy and I would like to thank you all for the prayers we received while we recuperated from Covid-19.  We have completed our quarantine and are both feeling well, except I cannot smell or taste yet…hopefully that will come back soon! 

Here are a few updates to get you ready for 2021!

Life Teen Faith Formation:  

  • Family Faith Formation: Your current FACE! bag is for December/January.  You had 2 weeks of lesson plans in December and make sure you look at January before 1/6…there are some special Holy Days in January and weekly lessons begin on 1/11.  You can also use this time to complete any outstanding Touch Base with FACE forms to turn in at the end of January.  Confirmation students…the Touch Base with FACE! form is REQUIRED from each student for each month.  This completed form helps us verify your religious education component for Confirmation preparation. Please make sure you are turning in the Touch Base with FACE! form.  
  • Decision Point:  I am so sorry that our 12/13 gathering had to be canceled!  I had some great stuff planned for that date!!!  Our next gathering will be on Sunday, JANUARY 10TH from 2:15pm-3:45pm (Please check in on time!).  Remember, we meet in the church and wear your mask.  Here are the Decision Point gathering dates for the remainder of the school year:  January 10, February 7, March 7, April 25. 

Life Teen Mass: 

  • Mass Time:  Father Cyriac announced at Masses this past weekend that the Life Teen Mass has been permanently changed to 4pm.  We are still hopeful that the Life Teen Mass will be held outdoors (weather permitting) but are looking for people/families that might be interested in helping set up and taking down the set up.  If you (or your family) is interested in helping with this, please email me at youthministry@stolivers.com.   The Saturday Vigil Mass time will be changed to 4pm beginning on 1/9/21.
  • Life Teen Mass Liturgical Servers:  Thank you to all who are currently serving the Life Teen Mass as Ushers, Altar Servers, Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion.  I am looking for more people who would like to serve in any of these roles.  If you are interested in serving in one of these roles at the 4pm Life Teen Mass, please email me at youthministry@stolivers.com
  • Holy Day of Obligation:  The Feast of the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God on Friday, January 1st, is a holy day of obligation. A vigil mass is scheduled for Thursday, December 31st, at 5:00pm and on the Feast Day, Friday, January 1st at 10:00am in English and at 12Noon in Spanish. No reservations are necessary, please sit socially distanced in church.

The year 2021 marks the 175th Anniversary of the Apparition of Our Lady of La Salette. In commemoration of this anniversary, a traveling statue of Our Lady of La Salette will be here at St. Oliver’s from March 9-20, 2021. There will be a nine-day Novena from Wednesday, March 10, to Thursday, March 18. Fr. Cyriac is inviting families to sponsor the statue by requesting a mass intention for the days of the Novena donating $100 or more for their special intentions. All weekday masses are at 9:00am. All proceeds will benefit La Salette vocations.
